Privacy Policy

Last updated:

This Privacy Policy explains how TODO: Legal company name (e.g. Sankat Saathi Technologies Pvt. Ltd.) ("Sankat Saathi", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares and protects personal data when you use our website (https://sankatsaathi.com), our QR stickers and tags, the scan page that opens when a sticker is scanned, our helpline, and our owner app (together, the "Service").

We follow the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and the Information Technology Act, 2000 and its rules.

1. Who this applies to

  • Owners — people who buy and activate a sticker or tag and add emergency contacts.
  • Emergency contacts — family members or friends an owner adds to receive alerts and calls.
  • Helpers — anyone who scans a sticker or calls the helpline to help.
  • Visitors — anyone using our website or contacting us.

2. What we collect

From owners

  • Name, mobile number, email (optional), preferred language.
  • Emergency contacts: name, mobile number, relation.
  • Tag details: the sticker code, tag type (vehicle, child, pet, item), a short label and a public message you choose.
  • Optional details you choose to add (for example, a medical note shown in emergencies).

From helpers (only what they choose to share)

  • Photo taken or uploaded on the scan page.
  • Location — only if the helper allows location permission on their phone, or types a place name.
  • A note they write.
  • Call logs for masked calls and helpline calls: time, duration, the tag involved and call status. Calls go through a masked number; neither side sees the other's number.
  • Technical data: a one-way hashed version of the IP address (we don't store the raw IP), browser type, and time of scan — used to prevent abuse.

From website visitors

  • Details you send in our contact or partner forms.
  • If you accept cookies: anonymous usage data through Google Analytics and Meta Pixel. If you choose "Only essential", these are not loaded.

3. Why we use it (purpose)

  • To connect a helper with the owner's family during an emergency, wrong parking, or lost-and-found situation.
  • To send alerts (with photo, location and time) to the owner's emergency contacts.
  • To run masked calls and the keypad-phone helpline.
  • To prevent misuse (rate limits, blocking repeated abuse).
  • To answer your questions, process orders, and handle partner applications.
  • To meet legal obligations.

We never show an owner's or contact's phone number to a helper, and we do not sell personal data.

4. Consent

Owners give consent when activating a tag and adding contacts. Owners must have the permission of each emergency contact before adding them. Helpers give consent when they choose to share a photo, location or note, and when they allow location access on their phone. You can withdraw consent at any time (see Section 8); this may stop parts of the Service from working.

5. Who we share it with

  • The owner's emergency contacts — the alert details (photo, location, time, note, tag type).
  • Service providers that help us run the Service, under contract and only for that purpose: cloud hosting, SMS/WhatsApp messaging, calling/IVR providers (such as Exotel or Plivo), email delivery and analytics.
  • Emergency services or authorities, when required by law or when needed to protect someone's life or safety.

6. How long we keep it (retention)

Data How long
Owner account, contacts, tags While your account is active, and up to 90 days after you delete it
Alert photos, location and notes 180 days from the alert, then deleted
Call logs 1 year (or longer if required by law)
Hashed IP / scan records 90 days
Contact and partner form messages 2 years

We may keep some data longer if the law requires it (for example, invoices for tax purposes).

7. How we protect it

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Access is limited to staff who need it. Photos are stored privately and are not publicly accessible. No system is 100% secure, but we work hard to protect your data and will inform you and the Data Protection Board as required if a breach affects you.

8. Your rights

Under the DPDP Act, you can:

  • Access a summary of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct or update your data.
  • Erase your data — see our Account & Data Deletion page.
  • Withdraw consent.
  • Nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or become unable to.
  • Raise a grievance with us, and then with the Data Protection Board of India.

Email help@sankatsaathi.com to use any of these rights. We'll respond within 30 days.

9. Children

Our Bachpan Saathi tags are bought and managed by parents or guardians. See our Children's Privacy page.
